Urban Stomping Ground is a multimedia project created by students at De La Salle Academy in collaboration with the News Literacy Project. The project is divided into two parts. The first part is a showcase of photos taken by students in two American Studies classes taught by Angel Gonzalez. The classes were given the assignment to photograph the neighborhood surrounding their school on 97th street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan as it related to research on social issues and the area’s changing landscape. The second installment showcases the process of storytelling through audio pieces created by a group called the Young Men’s Workshop. The group, consisting of eighth grade boys, share their personal accounts on the influence of video games in their personal lives, and the many ways it translates into their everyday routines.
